What a Month

The month of January, 2010 will not soon be forgotten.

Sparky’s maternal grandfather, Galen Perkins, passed away very suddenly. He had fallen a few weeks earlier and hit his head; he seemed to be fine, but (unbeknownst to anyone) had started bleeding in his brain. He went unconscious Friday, January 8th, and never woke up.

He is survived by his wife, 3 children, 6 grandchildren (and their spouses), and 5 great-grandchildren (plus one on the way). Grandpa Perkins was a big part of all our lives, and he will be missed greatly.

Sparky’s Uncle Kelly was on a short-term, 3-week, mission trip in Haiti at the time of Grandpa’s passing. As I’m sure you are aware, Haiti was hit with a major earthquake on the 12th. Uncle Kelly, who just lost his dad unexpectedly a few days before, was just miles from the epicenter. We are praising God that he came through uninjured, physically. However, three people in his ministry team were killed, and two were seriously injured, when the mission station building collapsed. After helping with rescue efforts, Uncle Kelly was evacuated by the US Military and is now back in Idaho. Please continue to pray for him, as he has a lot to deal with right now!

Please also pray for Sparky’s family during this time of grieving and healing. We earnestly pray that Christ will use this to draw some to Himself. We are already seeing God do some amazing things!

Utah

We took another trip to Utah the beginning of the month. We were able to visit two churches: Mountain View Baptist in Grantsville, and Santaquin Baptist in Santaquin. (Neither is far from Salt Lake City.)

Both churches were quite a blessing to us, and we were privileged to get to know them better.

We are continually encouraged at the reminder of how God is working in local churches, and how faithful His people are.

French

Thank you for your continued prayer for our language study. Please also pray for our French tutor, Eliane, as she has been having problems with her back. This makes it difficult for her to drive or sit for any length of time. She does seem to be feeling less pain lately, but we know she appreciates prayer on her behalf.

Kuna Youth “Snow Day”

This month we got to spend some time with the Kuna Baptist Youth Group. Two Suburban loads went up the mountain to Placerville, Idaho. We had a great time, and praise God for safety while sledding and playing in the snow. We also are praising God for the time he allowed us to share Him with this group of kids!

Support

We are so excited to add new support partners! We are currently partnering with 9 churches and 10 individuals. Praise the Lord!

We are still praying that God will allow us to leave for language school (in Canada) during this year of 2010. Please continue to pray with us for the Lord’s will concerning His provision and timing.

House

We have a couple very interested in buying our house. They are currently going through the steps to get a loan. Please pray that the Lord will intervene in whole the process, according to His will.
