“And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also” II Tim 2:2

IBBC Mobile (Bible Institute)

Most of you know that our key verses have been II Timothy 2:1-2. It is so exciting to see this being lived out! We have 2 men that we have been training to be mobile professors, Papa (MR. in Kikongo) Muna and Papa Excellent. Sparky spends several weeks forming them to teach each class. When they finish this training, they are then ready to go “teach others also.” Since their return from the last cycle, Sparky took them through a Missiology class and Personal Evangelism. They will begin teaching these next two courses in Dibaya on January 20th; the day we leave Congo. Our furlough schedule put a lot of pressure on the last cycle’s timing; but, because they are not so pressed for time this go-round, they will take longer breaks between each location. This will put less pressure on them and also give them more time with their families in-between. They will travel and teach in the same 4 locations as before, finishing the cycle on April18th.

Please pray for Papa Muna and Papa Excellent as they plan on traveling exclusively by motorcycle this time, and neither have a lot of motorcycle experience. We do praise the Lord for providing an IBBC motorcycle for them to use! Please also pray for them to present the material clearly and with confidence, knowing that they are sharing the truth of God’s word. Pray also for the continuing students and possible new students to be open to these truths, and that they also will have the courage to pass these truths on to others.

Christmas and New Years in Dibaya

This was our 3rd Christmas in the DR Congo, but our first in Dibaya. It was so nice to be “home” for the holidays! Christmas morning, we woke up and walked down to the river for a Christmas baptism service. After the baptism, we walked back to the church for the Christmas program. The rest of the day, we spent with our family playing games and doing puzzles. We also were blessed to have a little piece of ham left for Christmas dinner (Myndii’s parents brought it from the states in May).

New Year’s Day, our church asked if they could start a new tradition. Everyone met up at the Bible Institute for an Agape dinner (“pot luck”, Congo style) and we set up the projector to show an inspirational film. It was a great time of fellowship and definitely something we will try to continue.

Leaving Dibaya

Good-byes are always hard; but for us that place our faith in Christ, the French “au revoir” (to see again) is much more appropriate. The day before we left, the deacons and associate pastor came to pray with us. They read from Luke 22 and said, “We know you don’t really want to go, and we don’t want you to leave. But this is the time that God has appointed for you to go. Lord willing, you will be with us again soon. While you are gone, we commit to pray, like what Jesus told His disciples to pray so they did not fall into temptation while he was away.” We prayed together, and we said our tearful good-byes. Please pray for these 6 men to be faithful and continue teaching and fortifying the church in our absence.

Exit/Return Visas

We are so grateful for the Ward’s help in getting our visa applications submitted the day after arriving in Kinshasa. These visas are necessary to re-enter the country next August. We are praying to get our visas and passports back by this coming Wednesday, as next week contains 2 national holidays and the offices will be closed for a 4-day weekend.
