Québec!

Thank you for all your prayers for our travel. We made it to Québec City in just less than 1 week in the car. We are so thankful that everything went quite smoothly, and that we are now settling in to our new apartment.

Legal Papers…

Our applications for CAQ (the papers to let us study in Québec) were received by the office in Montreal. However, just before our arrival to Canada, they requested more proof from our mission agency concerning our finances. We (along with Melanie Webster) hand delivered the notarized documents to the CAQ office last Wednesday (August 25th). As of today (September 3rd), we still have not received word on when they will get us the documents we need. PLEASE continue to PRAY for God’s intervention in this process!!! We still are confident that He is hand-carrying these papers through the process and we will get them in His timing. Once we get this document from CAQ, we can drive to the boarder and get our Student Visas. Right now we are here under “visitor” status, which is legal, but we need these papers to register as students at the university.

Laval

Despite the fact that we were not supposed to be able to do anything without our CAQs and Student Visas, God has provided! Laval University (our language school) is allowing us to attend all our classes. We will not be able to officially register for our courses until we have our legal documents, but this way we will not have to start late and try to catch up. So, we became college students on Monday and were able to attend the whole first week. However, the registrar’s office would have liked for us to have the CAQs by today. Please pray for them to have patience as we are still waiting…

After attending classes for one week, one of our professors asked for us to consider advancing to the higher level class. We had intended to take “Elementary French” but she suggested that we move into the “Intermediate French” courses. This meant a change in schedule, a commitment for much more home-work, and quite a challenge! (Not to mention that we’re not officially in the classes anyway…) However, God has brought us here to learn French. We feel that God has presented this opportunity for us to be further along in language than we had originally “planned.” So, 12 college credits of Intermediate French (each!) it is…

Ruth

Please pray for our littlest one! A few days after arriving here, she broke out in a rash. We have been unable to figure out what is causing it (believe me, we have tried just about everything!) and it doesn’t seem to be going away. Antihistamine helps (which indicates an allergic reaction) but is not getting rid of it. The hardest part is getting her to leave it alone…she is causing more problems by scratching and making sores. It is making mom and dad quite sad and at a loss for what we can do to make her more comfortable.

God has provided for Ruth to have a GREAT sitter. The Webster’s daughter, Catherine, was unable to attend college this year and was looking for work. She agreed to watch Ruth at our apartment while the rest of us are at school.

The Bigger Kids

Speaking of school, the older two children were supposed to wait for us to have CAQs before attending school. However, God intervened once again and the school has allowed Martha to enroll in 4th grade, and Titus into 2nd grade. Their first day of attending school was September 1st. God gave them both fantastic teachers! Martha’s teacher is happy to have Martha in her class, and prepared the other students, getting them excited for Martha’s arrival. Titus’ teacher taught French immersion in Alberta, Canada and is pleased to have another student to teach French.

Church

We have been so blessed by the church here in Québec! The apartment we are living in is the former parsonage, and is the 2nd floor above the fellowship hall of the church building. The church did a lot of preparation for our arrival including providing many of our furnishings, and even filled some of our pantry. Even more importantly, they welcomed us into the family immediately. We felt at home right away, and are really looking forward to the year we get to spend with them all! They have also already been a great help with our home-work
